A few months ago we wrote about some of the dollars and cents reasons partnering with Native-owned businesses makes good sense. Today we’ll revisit a few of those, and introduce some additional benefits.
As a Native-owned small business, Nordin Solutions LLC is registered with the U.S. government as both an Indian-Owned Economic Enterprise (IEE) and an Indian Small Business Economic Enterprise (ISBEE).
So what does that mean?
IEEs and ISBEEs are afforded special status under the Buy Indian Act of 1901. This allows Nordin to compete for Indian Set Aside work with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Service, Bureau of Indian Education, and other covered departments and agencies. For business partners, this means that by working with Nordin, they can compete for government work that others cannot.
As mentioned last time, Nordin is also eligible to participate in the Department of Defense Indian Incentive Program IIP); under this, prime contractors are eligible for a 5% rebate on subcontracted work worth $500,000 or more in accordance with DFARS Clause 252.226-7001: https://business.defense.gov/Programs/Indian-Incentive-Program/
Nordin is also affiliated with the the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and, while not currently a tribally-owned enterprise, it can assist the tribe in establishing a tribe-chartered contract vehicle, offering enormous benefits to a team.
Some of these include:
• Sole-source contracting that eliminates the time and cost of market research, acquisition strategies, solicitation, proposal review and contractor selection
• Sole-source contracting above the $4M threshold (13CFR §124.506(b))
• Sole-source contracting up to $100M without justification and authorization (13CFR §124.506(b)(5))
• Awards that cannot be protested (13CFR §124.517(a))
Of course, these are not the only benefits of working with a Native business. Partnering with one - or hiring one to support your projects - means that you will be able to tap into a motivated, resilient, culturally sensitive, and flexible workforce that is used to taking on tough work in challenging environments.
Whether you are looking for new markets, to save money, or to take advantage of a smart workforce that will get the job done, working with Nordin and other Native-owned businesses makes more sense now than ever.
